Baby Red Spotted Sally in my garden

I've found the most adorable inch and a half long baby in my tomato patch. The garden is planted in an old kiddie wading pool, and surrounded by chicken wire, so I think it's fairly safe from predators. But I am worried about it - it seems thinner today than the day I first found it - on Sept. 10 (my birthday! what a lovely gift )

I didn't know what kind it was, so I did some research on it (web), and identified it as a Red Spotted Eft. I did not really find out the other things I wanted to know - which is what, if anything, I can do to help this little darling survive. I know nothing about salamanders, except they are semiaquatic. We don't live *on* a river, but do live near one & it is pretty damp here. I live in Maine, so it will be cooling off soon, and I am worried. And what does it eat? I assumed it eats veggies, since it's in the garden. I left out a piece of tomato & one of yellow summer squash. There is parsley growing too. I don't use pesticides, so there should be bugs there to eat. I put out a small broken clay pot for it to hide in if it likes. It has traveled about quite a lot - I find it under the parsley one day, under a downed green tom the next, etc.

I dread the though of finding it dead for lack of food or water.....any advice would be appreciated! THANKS!
